In their pilot episode, they introduced Ishinomaki Laboratory, a design collective in Ishinomaki, Japan. Led by Architect and Designer Keiji Ashizawa, Ishinomaki Laboratory was created to serve as a reminder of the tragedy of the Great Earthquake of 2011, which left the town of Ishinomaki devastated and struggling to recover. In hopes of reintroducing the town of Ishinomaki to the world, they built Ishinomaki Home Base in collaboration with fellow designers in the area. Ashizawa sees the home base as a starting point for tourists to get to know the culture and history of Ishinomaki.
